FAQs

Here are some answers to frequently ask questions. If you have more questions please feel free to give us a call or email us and we would be happy to help you out.

Q: What causes a breaker to trip?

A: There are?a few?things that can cause a breaker to trip. One is an overloaded circuit, which means that it is using more power than the circuit was designed to handle. This can be fixed by running a new circuit.?Another is that you may have a short in the circuit; this should be looked at as it can be a problem.? With either problem is is important to have a professional look at it.

Q: Do you bill by the hour or by the project?

A: It all depends upon the circumstance. If you are building a new home and need it wired that would be billed by the project (usually; Deposit, Rough, and Final). If you were calling for a service call that would probably be billed hourly. Each job is different but we do provide up front estimates for work if you are planning on an electrical project.

Q: Can I put a dimmer switch on a fluorescent light?

A: Yes you can but you need to make sure you get the right type. These can be very expensive.

Q: Are materials included in you estimates?

A: Yes, when we estimate a project it is based on specification, site evaluations, plans (if supplied), and current code requirement and quite a few years of experience!

Q: Can I run an exposed wire outside under my roof?

A: NO, outdoor wiring needs to be protected by conduit, never run exposed wiring outside.

Q: Do you provide fixtures or do I provide them?

A: Again, depending on the project. If you have a fixture and you want it installed we would do that. If you are planning a remodel or new home we would provide the fixtures (we get a better price than you)! If you have something specific in mind let us know and we can find it for you.

Q: Can I run and extension cord under a rug?

A: NO, this is a fire hazard! People walking over it will cause damage to the wire which could result in a fire.

Q: Should I have my panel checked?

A: Electrical panels should be serviced every two years. It should be cleaned out and all connections should be checked to make sure they are tight. This should be done by a professional as it is very dangerous because this is live power.

Q: I have no power to the outlet in my bathroom, what’s the problem?

A: Your GFI is probably tripped. Check the buttons on the front of the outlet there should be a reset. If it continues to trip you will want someone to take a look at it.
